An image can tell a thousand words but here are a few to explain the projects :
Robert’s eyes – Robert Zarzecki is blind , he suffers from pigmentary retinal degeneration. Which was passed on to him genetically by his mother. Since Robert was 8 years old he was aware that one day he will lose his sight completely. He has a 6 year old son, Gabryś. Who has become his fathers eyes. The two are inseparable. Gabryś guides his father through everyday life by explaining with words the visual world to him. While his father opens a world of endless possibilities, being an example to his son. That even without the might of sight, being handicapped. One can achieve his goals. As a trained theater instructor Robert once used to work in a day center with Chechen refugee children. But due to his sight slowly diminishing he had to quit his career as he could not look after the kids no more. Left with scarce opportunities due to his age, Robert enrolled for a massage course. Which eventually led him to start a career as a masseur. He has now opened his very own massage parlour. Between this he has almost completed his physiotherapy studies, whilst also teaching physiotherapy to first year students at his University. While attending school for the visually impaired in Warsaw in his youth. Robert was introduced to theater, which led him to become part of the Krzesiwo Theatre group which features only blind actors. Regularly performing in Warsaw and various festivals around Poland. Robert has become one of the first people to take part and eventually become a member of the Polish blind tennis team. He now represents Poland on various international blind tennis tournaments. This work is part of my international project between Poland and Brazil, focusing on visually impaired people.
A burden weights heavily on the soul – Due to Poland’s tragic history, faith has been sometimes the only shoulder one could lean on. This relationship between person and religion manifests itself strongly in everyday life.
Warsaw – The capital of Poland. A city that survived its own death. Destroyed during World war 2 and cagged in communist decades after it. Warsaw like Poland itself strives for the future. But at the same time struggles immensely with its troubled past. Trying to rebuild it’s lost identity.
O mais profundo é a pele – A theatre performance at Fundição Progresso by the acrobats representing the Teatro Anonimo. Lapa , Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Açao social pela musica do Brasil – The social action for music of Brazil is an NGO offering education and training through classical music to children and youths in community’s socially vulnerable. The NGO runs 9 projects in Brazil. 4 of them are based in the favelas of Rio de Janeiro. My documentation seen here is of the NGO’s project based in Rio de Janeiro’s most troubled favela the Complexo do Alemâo. For more than 15 years The social action for music of Brazil has been promoting the formation of classical youth orchestras across the country, such as the Youth Orchestra of Brazil and the Mercosur orchestra. In order to promote the culture of classical music.
Pedra do Leme – Situated in the Leme neighbourhood of Rio de Janeiro. Which borders the most famous beach in the world Copacabana. Pedra do Leme a rock formation with a Fort on its top. Offers a spectacular view of the affluent Zona Sul coastline. A place where fisherman outnumber the cliff jumpers. But it’s the latter that seduce the eye of the passerby. Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Rio de Janeiro – Brazil’s Cidade maravilhosa. One of the most beautifully positioned city’s in the world. Nested between the hills and the Atlantic Ocean. But within it’s tourist meca’s and the paradise stricken Zona Sul with it’s glorious beaches and swanky bars. Lays a world ripped apart by corruption and deprived of human rights, equality, sanitation, development. A melting pot of cultures and people with an unbroken will to survive.
